1/48 Indian Jaguar Nose
Bevan Pinto asks: Will the Jaguar IM resin nose conversion be available in 1/48 scale in the future and are there any retailers in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for your products?
Dear Bevan, We are shortly to release the 1/72 Scale Indian Jaguar IM nose conversion set and we will be looking to up-scale this to 1/48 Scale if there is enough demand. We use to supply Flightline Hobbies but they have not ordered from us for a while. Victory Hobbies stock our range and can get most things very quickly.

1/32 Lightning Decals
Geoff Coughlin asks: Having bought the new Trumpeter Lightning in 1:32 scale this is just a pleading request for you guys to produce a decal sheet of stencils for natural metal and camo Lightnings please! The revised Trumpeter decal sheet has just arrived and they've only added the red to the fin flash from what I can see no improvement in the stencils at all and the under scale roundels / forward fuselage 111 Sqn flash... Unbelievable...Anything you can do will surely be a winner.
Dear Geoff, We are planning a number of 1/32 scale Lightning decals, the first should be available within about 8 weeks. The stencil sheet will follow on towards the end of the year.

New British Military Decals
Tony O'Toole asks: I know I keep bugging you with ideas but would you please consider the subjects of the attached photos as decal options for your next UK Update sheet? The first is Hawk XX301 wearing special markings for the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation and the second is another RN aircraft...a Sea King HU.6 from 771 NAS at Culdrose, I'm sorry but I'm unsure of the serial! I'm sure the RN would be more than happy to give you more info about these aircraft and I know a lot of modellers would be more than happy to build kits of these two...me included! All the best, Tony O`Toole.
Hi Tony, nice the hear from you and thanks for the pictures of the RN 100 Years of Naval Aviation Hawk and the Anniversary RN Sea King. You will notice from the news section that we are already in production of the Hawk sheet and the Sea King is on the next UK Air Arm Update set. Let me know if you have anything else you would like covered.

14 Squadron Tornado Special
David Taylor asks: Hi there, I am going to buy the MA-128 decal sheet and was wondering if you could recommend a blue paint for the tail of the 14 Sqn anniversary jet? Many thanks, David,
Dear David, The Blue we have been quoted by the RAF is BS381C-110. Xtracolour and Humbrol do this in their paint ranges. The Hasegawa kit with these decals is inaccurate and has the wrong shaped decal and wrong colour specified. Hope this helps.

Spitfire Mk.1 - Mk.VI
Mark Gibson asks: Hi, I as looking at the decals for the spitfire MK I TO MK VI, it says for eight aircraft, does that mean enough for eight or do you have to choose and have to use common decals? Also are you planning anything on the Battle of Britain? thanks, Mark.
Dear Mark, I presume you are looking at sheet MA-114.Yes the sheet gives you enough markings to produce all 8 schemes depicted. We are also planning a Battle of Britain Book in 2010 to celebrate the 70th Anniversary. This will have some decals covering Hurricanes and Spitfires in the BoB as well as some Axis aircraft.

RAF 17 Squadron Tornado's
Phil Landshoft asks: I am attempting to complete a selection of aircraft flown by 17 Sqn, RAF, does your decal sheet ML72127 have an option for this squadron? Phil.
Dear Phil, sheet MA-127, covers the RAF Anniversary colour schemes only, our decal sheet MA-104, has standard RAF markings for the Tornado GR.1 and Gr.4 but neither sheet features 17 Squadron aircraft. However, we are planning a sheet for RAF Germany aircraft in the 1980-1990's and this will have 17 Squadron Tornado's. Sorry we could not help you at this time.

RAF ISTAR Sheet
Tom Choy asks: Hi, has the ISTAR decals been delayed or cancelled? I noticed that you said it would be released in October of 2008 but they are not in your catalogue as for sale yet.
Dear Tom, No the sheet has not been cancelled, just delayed to ensure the sheet was as accurate as we could get it, especially the graduated and litho tail markings. The sheet is at the Printers and will be ready fro June 2009.

RAF Shackleton's
Gerry Talbot asks: My son & I have two RAF Shackleton Mk3 1/72 scale kits, but they both have the same registration decal; please advise if someone could supply a suitable decal different from the one that comes with the kit, Frog or Modelcraft. (I still have the South African Shack that I built many years ago.) Also I ask the same question about the 1/72 scale Vulcan that carries a Blue Steel, it seems we're only allowed one registration; so I ask you: will you do a different one for us?
Dear Gerry, We are working on a new RAF Coastal Command On Target Special book which will have several decal sheets that go with this including Sunderlands, Neptunes and Shackleton's. The sheet should be ready towards the end of the year.

RAF Chinooks
Jakub Cikhart asks: I would like to ask you about the set of engine filters for Chinook (set CS-118), as you won't probably do them for 1/48 scale, I would like to ask you if you can provide the dimensions or drawings. I would like to build the Chinook from Gulf war 1991.
Dear Jakub, Due to many requested we have decided to up-scale the Chinook sand filter and re produce this in 1/48th. The filter box should be ready by June 2009. We are also up-scaling our Chinook decal sheet to 1.48th scale, MA-119.

Dear Dave, We are working on numerous resin update sets for the Sea Vixen including the refuelling pod. The 1/144 scale set is still in production but as you can imagine with the fine detail in this scale we are working on the quality of the moulds to ensure scale accuracy.

Stephane asks: am about to build the Tamiya 1/32 Phantom J into the British FG1 version. By any chance, will you release a conversion set for this one? Or a decals sheet for the brit Phantom i this large scale? Bravo again for your products.
Dear Stephane, at the moment we do not have any plans to produce 1/32nd scale decals for the RAF or RN Phantoms but when we release our On Target Spotlight Book next year on the UK Phantoms we may then do a sheet if there is demand. Thanks for your kind words about our products.

Chinook Conversion/Detail Sets
Jim Fowler asks: Do you have any plans to produce a 1/72 scale Chinook HC2/2A conversion/detail set? Are there any plans for decals depicting the new style Royal Air Force titling and tail codes etc. now appearing on the RAF Chinook?
Dear Jim, We have already released a set of sand filters in 1/72 scale which can be found here under resin accessories. The only other resin set relates to the rotor blades fitted to the HC.1s and can also be found here. As for future resin updates, we are always open to suggestions. On the decal front we released a Chinook HC.2 sheet some years ago now and MA-119 is still available in 1/72 scale only. The 'Royal Air Force' titling seen on contemporary models is likely to appear on one of our sheets in the future although rather than being a dedicated Chinook product it will likely be seen on one of our UK Air Arm Update compilations. We hope that answers your question.

Canberra Stencils
Gary Stevenson asks: Have you any plans to produce a set of stencils for the 1/48 Canberra kits please? The ones in the Airfix and CA kits are only representative of certain aircraft and I wondered if you would be producing a generic and comprehensive decal sheet to cover the stenciling, which was many and varied on the various versions of the EE Canberra in RAF service.
Dear Gary, We released a Canberra stencil set two years ago in 2007, details of which can be found here in our decal listings. However, we have now unfortunately sold out of the set in 1/48 scale. On the up side, we are looking at a reprint during 2009 should sufficient demand exist.

Dear Derek, The 1/48 Canberra B(I).8 gun pack has now been released and we will take a view on whether to scale it down to 1/72 scale at a later date. We have regular discussions with Airfix and this is quite possible at some point in the future. Thank you.

Avro Shackleton Decals
Ian asks: I am looking at completing an elderly Frog Shackleton in its AEW guise, this is very much a toe dipping back into aero modelling. I appreciate that Shacks are old school but maybe there might be some demand for some people to re-finish older models to sit alongside the new Airfix Nimrod...8 squadron would be great!
Dear Ian, At present time we have no plans to produce any decals for the Shackleton in the near future as there are numerous other releases that take precedence. We may well decide to pursue this sort of subject in the future but at present we cannot guarantee anything.

War on Terror Decals
Lee asks: Please can you tell me what decals are provided in sheet number MA-161 for the Westland WAH-64D Apache AH.1, ZJ232, 664 Squadron, 9 Regiment, Army Air Corp. Is this a full decal set or a few 'extra' detailing decals?
Dear Lee, Thank you for your query. MA-161 provides all of the major markings for this WAH-64D on Operation Herrick over Afghanistan. On the assumption that your question relates to the smaller stencils on the aircraft then we can confirm that the sheet does not encompass that sort of detail as it is a large sheet already and there simply wasn't the space. Such stencils would be best acquired from the kit decal sheet. Usefully, there is a detailed reference diagram of all modifications made to the AAC Apaches prior to and during their time in theatre which may assist you during your build. We hope this answers your question but if you need any more information then please do not hesitate to ask.

ISTAR and Nimrod AEW.3 Decals
Martin Broughton asks: Could you tell me who makes the Sentinel R1 in kit form, and if there will be a sheet featuring the Nimrod AEW3, and also the Gannet AEW3? Thanks
Dear Martin, There is currently no kit of the Sentinel R.1 although several manufacturers have hinted at the prospect of one at some time in the future, hence our decision to include the aircraft on the ISTARs decal sheet. answer to your second question, there is a 'Nimrod, Part 4' decal sheet in production under MA-176 and this will include such schemes as the sharks mouth MR.1 and the AEW.3s. Naturally, there is no Gannet AEW.3 included on that one! Hopefully that helps you to some extent though.

Dear Steve, The three sheets, MA-147, MA-148 and MA-149 will hopefully be available at Telford but we cannot be 100% sure of that at present time as, although some new sheets and reprints have arrived, they have not been delivered from the printers as yet. On the assumption that they do make it for the show by 14th November, we will have them on sale but as yet we have not confirmed what, if any deals we will be able to offer at the show. Gulf War Buccaneer Decals
Rene Zass asks: Will there be a reprint of the initial decal sheet MA-100 "Buccaneer S.Mk.2 Royal Air Force, Gulf War 1990-1991" in 1-48 scale? I have been trying to get this for several months now and it seems to be sold-out worldwide...I am especially interested in "Guinness Girl" and "Jolly Rogers"
Dear Rene, As you may or may not know we are imminently releasing the second books within our Spotlight Series focusing on the Blackburn Buccaneer and although there has not been a re-release program associated with that we have actually commissioned a brand new decal sheet (likely to be MA-177) which will cover the aircraft in numerous schemes, among which will be one or two Gulf War examples which may be of use to you. Modern RAF Weapons/pylons
Jonathan Hargreaves asks: Great to see that Brimstone is in production. Do you have plans to do the same with Paveway IV and the 500lb bombs being carried by Harriers in Afghanistan? Could we also have the correct Litening pod for Tornado and Typhoon FGR4, as well as the latter's pylons? Quite a wish list I know, but I've been delighted with the many decals and resin items I've bought from you in the past.
Dear Jonathan, we are planning to do many more weapon sets including the Paveway IV, it is just getting accurate information on these that is the problem. We have written to the manufacturers regarding the Litening pod and this will also be produced in due course. Aviation Workshop Resin RAF Weapons
Keith Clark writes: I have just purchase some of your resin 1/72 scale weapons and I would like to say how great these are, especially the Storm Shadows and RAPTOR pods. I have been looking for RAF weapons for a long time but only just came across your range at The Aviation Hobbyshop in West Drayton. I also purchased your F-16 Conformal fuel tank set and think these are the best cast and molded sets on the market. What other weapons are you proposing and will these be available at other model shops, (Hannants)?
Dear Keith, the conversion sets and weapon sets have been available for some time and sell extremely well. We are the only UK company currently producing a 1/72 range of modern weapons. Currently in manufacturing stage are Brimstone missiles, Sea Eagle missiles, Paveway III bombs, Harrier and Tornado weapon points and stations upgrades plus some great conversion sets. Paul Lucas who produces most of our resin sets is a great modeller and agrees with you, these resin sets are superbly molded and detailed. At present it is only the Aviation Hobbyshop that stock our resin range but these are also available via our web site. Hannants at present have not taken the range even though they have expressed an interest.

Do you have an easy way to cut and fit the blue roundels for the wing tips, especially if I am to build it with lowered flaps/slats. I figured I would either make a template of the wing profile or simply lay them on wet and trim after they were dry. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
Dear Jarrod, thanks you for your email. The reason why we produced complete roundels is that most of the kits have slightly different wing dimensions and we felt that the complete roundel could be cut out from the sheet and templated on the kit wing before being cut to fit. Leading Edge decals also produced this scheme but they had roundels pre shaped which do not fit all models, especially the new Hobby Boss kit. An alternative is to lay the decal in place and when set trim the leading edge. As for dropping the wing flaps and making the decal fit, this may be better templated on clear tracing film and then overlaid over the roundel. I am sure you will then have to paint some of the areas. However, I would look at pictures of this on the RAAF web site to ensure accuracy. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!

Nimrod Decals
Ian Bennett asks Your Nimrod decal sheets where excellent, by far some of the best decal sheets released to date and far superior to the Xtradecal sheets. I cannot understand why they copied subjects you had already produced. Can you tell me if you are producing any other Nimrod decals as I am looking for the sharks mouth marking on the MR.1 from Malta in the early 1970's and also AEW markings. I have been informed by Cammett that they are working with Model Alliance to go with their great conversion set. I am also interested in 1960's Naval aviation. Have you anything planned?
Dear Ian, Thank you for your question and great comments about our decals. The Nimrod sheets were produced in close cooperation with Jonathan Mock who was the artist for the Airfix kit as well. Our Nimrod stencils are now available and have been limited to only 500 sheets per set. As for the Xtradecal sheets, sorry but it is difficult for me to comment on these as I have not seen them but I do agree that there was enough choice for them to do other schemes. The new Nimrod decal set will feature the sharks mouth MR.1, plus some other schemes and will include the AEW decals for white and light grey and hemp aircraft. We are planning some major Royal Navy decals in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale including Sea Vixens, Scimitars, Buccaneers and Gannets. We are also in production of the next Naval Air Power On-Target Special covering HMS Eagle.

On-Target Special 4: HMS Ark Royal '50 Years of Flight 1955-2005'
Colin Johnson asks The Ark Royal book has just arrived. Well done.Served on her with 892 Squadron F4K. I see you do other books and decals and I am making out an order now. Wessex decals for 845 NAS Fleet Air Arm please plus what about the chance of decals for Fairey Gannet C.O.D NO1 Courier FLT, 849 D, FLT HMS Eagle?
Dear Colin, Glad you enjoyed the book. It was a long time in production due to the technical difficulties with the MOD License Procurement. HMS Eagle is the second RN Carrier we are covering and hope to have this out for the Fleet Air Arm Model Show in February 2009 at RNAS Yeovilton. We will look at the aircraft requested and see no reason why these cannot be included. Please look at the web site for release dates! For your information HMS Victorious will be the third carrier book in the series and we are always looking out for pictures. If you have any from HMS Eagle that you think would be suitable please contact us.

ISTAR Sentinel R.1
Chris Clifford asks I note that you will be producing decals for the RAF's new Sentinel ISTAR asset...can you please tell me who might be releasing a kit of this aircraft, and possibly when? You surely must know in advance to some extent, or you wouldn't be producing the decals? Thanks
Dear Chris, This sheet was originally designed with the close co-operation of RAF Waddington and 5 Squadron so a decision was made to cover the RAF's ISTAR triad (Nimrod R.1, Sentinel R.1 & Sentry AEW.1) in its entirety. We are fully licensed to produce British military markings and as such were the natural choice for 5 Squadron/RAF Waddington to approach. We believe that a British model manufacturer is currently in the process of designing such a kit but our information is some months old now so nothing can be confirmed with any degree of certainty. However, like our Wings of Silver decals which have inspired kit manufacturers to produce models of the subjects covered, we would hope that a similar situation may present itself for the Sentinel in due course. Purchasing from South Africa
Dave Harvey asks As a avid modeller in South Africa I have to rely on the Internet to purchase items etc. Can goods be purchased directly from you?
Dear Dave, Greetings from us all here in the UK. You can indeed order directly from us by emailing aw.benita@btconnect.com. As yet I'm afraid we have not quite managed to set up a shopping cart facility on the new site as extremely busy periods in our full-time jobs have rather got in the way! Our project manager is due to be away in New Zealand during June so hopefully we'll be able to re-address the issue as a matter of priority soon after that. Please bear with us in the mean time and thank you for your message. We look forward to hearing from you via email soon.

Nimrod Stencils
Michael Mettman asks I was wondering if there was an update on the status of the stencils for the Airfix Nimrod Kit? I am looking at doing two different birds and I am using the previously released decal sheet MA-72160 for both birds. Fortunately this sheet covers both airframes I wish to do but was wondering if I do the original H.S. Nimrod MR.1 XV251/51 No.120 Sq. RAF Kinloss UK 1971 and Nimrod MR.2P XV260/60 120 Sq. RAF Kinloss UK 1993 can I use one stencil sheet for this or will I need two?? Thanks for your help and keep up the amazing work!
Dear Michael, In an effort to keep the cost of the sheets to an absolute minimum we have elected to include enough decals for only one airframe on each sheet. This has allowed us to adopt a retain price of 7.50 within the Premier Plus range whilst maintaining a high print quality. So, unfortunately you may well need two sets! Best of luck with the builds.

Nimrod Stencils
Michael M asks Now that you have produced three very popular sheets for the Airfix Nimrod are you planning on releasing any stencils for this great kit and when may we see them available?? Interested minds wish to know! Thanks Greatly!
Dear Michael, Apologies for the slow response to your message. We will indeed be producing Nimrod stencil sheets to complement the earlier releases. There will be four options in total - one each for the MR.1, MR.2 (old and new) & R.1.

Re-prints
Matt Roberts asks If new tool kits or re releases of older kits become available would any of the out of print decals possibly be reprinted? Or would new decals with new subjects be printed? Thanks for humouring me...
Dear Matt, On the whole once a decal run is exhausted we tend not to reprint again unless there is enough of a demand to justify it. That said, we are looking at taking some of the more popular schemes from the past and including them on future sheets where the majority are still in fact new subjects. We have to be quite targeted in our approach to reprints but perhaps you had something specific in mind?

US Stockists
Doug Summers asks Is there anyone on this side of the pond that carries your decals etc.? I purchased several from Two Bobs when they carried your excellent products but no one I am aware of has anything current. I am looking for a Nimrod R.1 sheet as well as others. Thanks for the time.
Dear Doug, Unfortunately there are no suppliers stocking our decals in the US at the present time. We have had a lot of interest but to date nobody has approached us with a reasonable offer and so disappointingly it has not been possible to arrange. Indeed one stockist actually wanted us to make a substantial loss and subsequently couldn't understand why we turned them down! If/when the right offer is laid upon the table then we'll be sure to give it serious thought and we can only apologise for any inconvenience for now. We're more than happy to ship direct to the States whenever you need anything though. Fingers crossed for the future!

Westland Wessex Decals
Steven Crabtree asks Will the Aviation workshop be considering producing a sheet on the Westland Wessex, especially The Queens flight and any other oddball schemes?
Dear Steven, We'll certainly consider anything and there are a couple of sheets for the future that may well include examples of the Wessex. As for the Queen's Flight aircraft we may well consider such a sheet as and when we can fit it in to the program. Should you have any detailed reference material we would be happy for you to send it to us at aviation-workshop@btconnect.com and we'll certainly review it as an option. Thank you for your message and we hope that helps.

Nimrod Stencil Sheets
Jack Thomas asks I am interested to know when your Nimrod stencil sheets will be available?
Dear Jack, We have at least two sheets in the pipeline. One will focus on the R.1 variant and the other on the MR.2, and probably the MR.1 as well. We expect the sheets to be available within 2 months!
